University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht is a major healthcare provider in the Netherlands. With its newly renovated state of the art operating rooms and intensive care, the UMC Utrecht is a referral center for patients from all over the Netherlands. Of wich about 800 open heart surgery procedures require the use of Cardio Pulmonary Bypass (CPB).
In addition to bypass operations and/or valve repairs/replacements, our cardiothoracic team in the UMC Utrecht has extended experience with heart and lung transplantation, ex-vivo lung perfusion, congenital adult cardiac surgery and complex aortic surgery.
Our center is a referral center for Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD, Heartware and Heartmate) and Extra Corporeal Life Support (ECLS) for heart and/or lung failure (in pre and postoperative periode) and in acute setting Extracorporeal CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR).
UMC Utrecht is currently expending its experience with robotic minimal invasive surgery.
Our team of 9 perfusionists takes an active role in patient care and in research and training for (para)medical staff and perfusion students.
